India will tour Ireland in August this year and will play three T20I games during the tour. The head of the Irish Cricket Board confirmed that India will visit Ireland in August this year for a T20I series, marking his second successive tour of Ireland in two years.

Last year, India visited Ireland in June to play two T20I games. India defeated them 2-0 in the series after winning the 1st T20I by 7 wickets and the 2nd T20I by 4 runs. Hardik Pandya had led the team through the series as many key players were absent from the tour. Deepak Hooda also scored a marvelous T20I century during the series.

India to play three T20I games against Ireland in August

Irish Cricket Board chief executive Warren Deutrom said Ireland will play three T20I matches at home against India in August. He also said that Ireland will play an ODI series against Bangladesh in May to further their direct qualification for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, which will take place in India later this year.

“The summer of 2023 will be a party for men’s cricket, but it will look very different for normal fans. Today we can confirm that India will visit Ireland for the second year in a row and confirm that the World Cup Super League series against Bangladesh will take place in early May. This is on top of the already announced Test Match at Lord’s in June and the three match ODI series in September against England,” said Warren Deutrom.

Ireland has not yet obtained a direct qualification for ICC ODI World Cup 2023. If they beat Bangladesh in the ODI series 3-0, they will manage to get a direct entry into the tournament. Otherwise, they will have to play the qualifiers in Zimbabwe in June-July.

India will face Australia at the ICC World Test Championships in June this year, which is their next international campaign after the India vs Australia series. Indian players will be busy with IPL 2023 before the WTC final. Last year, India sent a second-string team on a tour of Ireland. This time around, a similar strategy can be expected as BCCI’s focus is on ODIs due to the 2023 ODI World Cup.
