MI Cape Town edged past Paarl Royals with ease on Day 1 of SA20 on Tuesday with return man Jofra Archer picking up three wickets and Dewald Brevis scoring a quick 70 helping them to a convincing eight wicket victory.
Speaking about Archer’s return to action on Match Center Live, Viacom18 sports pundit Zaheer Khan said: “It has to be emotional for him too. When you’re playing after so long, pretty much your career is under scrutiny, how are you going to come back. You have to put in a lot of hard work, you also have to be very patient. So it’s not just the physical battle you have to be fighting, it’s also a mental battle. It’s not easy for anyone to be out of the game for that long. The injury is something that is not in your hands, but how you manage it takes a lot of energy.
Zaheer also weighed in on Brevis’ performance: “Certainly a star in the making. There is no doubt about that.” Pragyan Ojha also praised Brevis’s temperament and thought his performance was outstanding: “He was brilliant as Zak said. The most important thing for me is the temperament he showed. He carried the innings and finished the game.”
Ojha also felt that Brevis is the type of player worth investing in and compared him to the explosive Suryakumar Yadav. “When you look at the Mumbai franchise, the universe, I’m talking about different tournaments, they play in different leagues, then you see Suryakumar Yadav doing that, now they have Brevis doing that. So that’s a great sign when you invest in these players, you want these types of players to finish the game. In the world of cricket, if you see that there are very few players who can start the game and finish it, and these are the guys, they will be like pure gold for any franchise.”
