No substitutes have been nominated in the squad, leaving South Africa with just three closers: Kagiso Rabada, Gerald Coetzee and Marco Jansen, with a spinner, all but guaranteed to play for the Wanderers.
Senuran Muthusamy batted and bowled at SuperSport Park, but with Nortje ruled out, Keshav Maharaj and Simon Harmer will also be considered for the XI. South Africa may also consider using an extra batsman in the second Test, with Ryan Rickelton being the obvious choice.

Anrich Nortje took 6/84 in South Africa’s 87-run victory in the first Test in Pretoria, including 5/36 in the first innings when his frighteningly fast bowling turned the tide in favor of the home team.
