On Monday 6 March, Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced the appointment of Aiden Markram as the new Proteas T20I captain by naming the teams for the ODI and T20I series against the West Indies National Cricket Team.
The West Indies tour of South Africa 2023 consists of a two-match Test series, a three-match ODI series and a three-match T20I series. The ODI will be played on March 16, 18 and 21 while the T20I will be played on March 25, 26 and 28.

Meanwhile, Aiden Markram, who recently led the Eastern Cape Sunrisers to victory in the inaugural edition of the SA20, will take over the captaincy from Temba Bavuma, who had stepped down.
Meanwhile, four players – Gerald Coetzee, Tony de Zorzi, Tristan Stubbs and Ryan Rickelton – have received their first ODI call-up for the series against the Men In Maroon. Also, several key ODI players were rested for the first two games, considering the packed schedule in the World Cup year. Notably, the pace bowling duo of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje have been rested throughout the ODI series.

In an official statement issued by the CSA, head coach Rob Walter spoke about the addition of new faces to the team and the appointment of Aiden Markram as skipper of the T20I.
“This is a team that is very confident after beating one of the best white ball teams in the world, England, in their most recent series.
“We have introduced some new faces to the team of over 50 years. Personally, I’m excited to see Tony de Zorzi join the ODI team, as is Gerald Coetzee, following their debuts during the ongoing Test series. Both are players who have the potential to play a huge role in the future of the national team alongside Tristan Stubbs, who has already made such an important mark in the T20I arena.
“I am also excited to have Aiden take the reins as captain of the T20I as he is very familiar with the setup and works well with those around him. He is a player who leads from the front and we have no doubt that he will take this team to the next level for years to come,” he explained.
Additionally, JP Duminy has been appointed as the full-time white ball batting coach of the South African National Cricket Team, while Rory Kleinveldt will join the team as bowling coach for the West Indies series only.
