Royal Challengers Bangalore Women had another forgettable night as the team lost to Mumbai Indians Women by a massive 9-wicket margin in match number 4 of the WPL 2023. This is the second consecutive loss for the team led by Smriti Mandhana after they were defeated by Delhi Capitals Women in their opening match.
Captain Smriti Mandhana once again was disappointed with the bat, as the player was only able to get 23 runs from 17 deliveries before she was dismissed on the power play by Hayley Matthews.

The Royal Challengers seemed to be in a hurry as they lost consecutive wickets at regular intervals which did not allow their players enough time to adjust before they fell apart and could manage just 155 runs on the board before they were bowled out in 18.4 overs.
The bowlers fared no better as Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver smashed them all over the park. The two put together an unbeaten 100 runs and accounted for the second wicket to guide their team to finish in just 14.2 overs.
WPL 2023: Smriti Mandhana ensures stronger recovery
RCB-W captain Smriti Mandhana spoke about her team’s performance during the post-match presentation, where she discussed batsmen who missed runs at the backboard and how her team came up short by a huge margin. However, she praised the positive aspects shown by her side and said that they will bounce back stronger.

“Yes definitely. I think we would have loved to put more runs on the board at this batting wicket. We were below par tonight. We’ll come back stronger. Yes definitely I think some batsmen went into the 20s including me to me, but they couldn’t hit for longer stretches. We need to hit a lot once we’re ready, which we’ll do in the next few games.”
“If any of those hitters had been there until the 18th, we would have finished with a decent score. No, we had enough bowlers. 6-7 options are enough for us. We didn’t have enough on the board and we were also bad on the field. It is a very short tournament. Once you start winning, you can be on a roll. That is what we expect. Kanika and Shreyanka were brilliant with the bat. Those were the positives for us. We are happy with their hitting as they stopped the slide. We will come back stronger as a team.”
Smriti Mandhana and her team are now in the same boat with Gujarat Titans as both the teams have lost their first two games in the tournament and are yet to win.
