There is no doubt that the Indian Premier League (IPL) is a pretty popular cricket event in the world. In fact, IPL is one of the most fastest growing sports tournaments as it enjoys a humungous fan following across the globe.

The cash-rich league is observed as the world’s toughest tournament as it brings the best players under one roof. The range of IPL’s popularity can be understood by the fact that various cricket boards don’t stage any international series during IPL matches. Further, many cricketers wait for IPL season as it gives them heavy contracts and the opportunity to share the change room with the best in the business.

Notably, IPL is organised annually by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Undoubtedly, the T20 tournament has seen a staggering growth in its popularity over the years, still, IPL has still some distance to cover to become the most popular sporting league in the world. However, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has made a bold claim stating that IPL generates more revenue than the English Premier League (EPL) – the most-watched sports league in the world.

“I’ve seen the game evolve, where players like me earned a few hundreds and now have the potential of earning crores. This game is run by the fans, by the people of this country, and by the BCCI, which was formed by cricket fans. This sport is strong and will continue to evolve. The IPL generates more revenue than the English Premier League. It makes me feel happy and proud that the sport I love has evolved to become so strong,” said Ganguly at the India Leadership Council Event.
