Will Jacks

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have suffered a blow ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL), with versatile Englishman Will Jacks sitting out the next edition due to injury. Will Jacks suffered the injury while playing in the second ODI at Mirpur during the tour of Bangladesh for the white ball series.

Will Jacks was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 3.2 crore in the IPL mini-auction in December as backup to Glenn Maxwell in his mid order, who is returning from injury. According to ESPNCricinfo, the 24-year-old has been forced to withdraw from the IPL after consulting with a specialist following scans.

Michael Bracewell set to replace Will Jacks

The Faf du Plessis-led team are looking for a replacement for Jacks as they have a major concern with Maxwell, who has not played competitive cricket for over 5 months. However, the multi-talented Aussie will play India in the three-match ODI series. Maxwell scored 513 runs at a strike rate of 144 after signing with RCB in 2021. He scored 301 runs at a strike rate of 169 last season.

According to the report, RCB are considering Michael Bracewell as a potential replacement for Jacks. Bracewell starred with the bat during New Zealand’s tour of India in January and demonstrated his powerful batting skills. The left-handed batsman nearly guided his side to victory in a 350-run chase during the first ODI, scoring 140 runs off 78 balls, including 12 fours and 10 sixes.

Bracewell failed to sell in the December auction after trading with a base price of Rs 1 crore. It is likely to be available throughout the season. The Royal Challengers will kick off their mega-tournament campaign against Mumbai Indians at Bangalore’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 2, their first game at their stadium since May 2019.
