IPL franchise Mumbai Indians will miss the services of Jasprit Bumrah as he is ruled out of the tournament after failing to make a comeback in the national team. Bumrah last played for India in the T20I series against Australia at home in September 2022.
Since then, the Indian spearhead has been out of the squad due to a long-standing back injury. He has now also been ruled out of IPL 2023 as the BCCI are keen to get him for the ODI. World Cup at home later this year.

During his rehabilitation in the NCA, officials who worked closely with him said that he was not fully fit to return to the Australia series on home soil. Bumrah has missed every tournament India has played, from the T20 World Cup to the recently concluded Test series against the Australians. He is also not part of the Indian ODI squad for the three match series.

Meanwhile, former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar has made a great comment about the Indians of Bumrah and Mumbai. He has backed the franchise to be among the top three teams at the end of the league stage in IPL 2023. He said that the franchise has enough talent and potential to cover the absence of Bumrah. Interestingly, Mumbai finished last in IPL 2022 losing 10 games and winning only four matches.
“They have to forget what happened last season and come to believe that they have the team to do it again. Jasprit Bumrah will be missed. But they have a team that can win the championship once again. I see them in the top three definitely, because they have a point to prove after last year’s performance.” Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

Meanwhile, the franchise has yet to name Bumrah’s replacement after he was ruled out for the season with a back injury. Australian pacer Jhye Richardson was another key bowler ruled out before the season even started for the Mumbai Indians. Jofra Archer will return for the franchise after missing IPL 2022 due to his longstanding elbow injury. It will be interesting to see how he lives up to the Mumbai colours.
