The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) could be the last season for legendary captain MS Dhoni, who is expected to bid farewell to the cash-rich league at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh has been outspoken about MS Dhoni’s retirement, saying that the former Indian captain will hang up his boots next season.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the most successful captains in IPL history, having led the franchise to the title four times in 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2021. The 41-year-old announced his retirement from the captaincy before the start of the 2020 season, however, he was forced into the leadership role midway through the tournament after Ravindra Jadeja relinquished the captaincy.

Dhoni wanted to retire in front of CSK fans: Harbhajan Singh
During a discussion on SportsYaari, Harbhajan Singh said that MS Dhoni will suddenly announce his retirement from the IPL like he did in Test Cricket in 2014.
“Look, he is MS Dhoni. Whatever he does, it will be very different. If he’s going to leave, he’ll do it very suddenly. We watched as he left the Indian Test captaincy in the same way”, Harbhajan told SportsYaari.

“But he always wanted to finish his career in front of the CSK fans. That is very close to him. He wanted to retire in front of them, and that’s a great thing that he thinks of the fans.” Harbhajan added.
The next edition of the IPL will be played between April and May and in a home and away format for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. The Super Kings will kick off their campaign against the defending champions Gujarat Titans on March 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The team led by MS Dhoni will play their first home game at the Chepauk on April 3 against the Super Giants.
