IPL 2023 is expected to be a fascinating contest as this time all 10 teams are evenly matched. SSR have appointed Aiden Markram as skipper and former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan is not pleased with the appointment of the Proteas star as franchise captain. SSR they would be aiming to change their fortunes after the disappointing editions of 2021 and 2022.

Irfan Pathan in SRH Captaincy
Irfan Pathan made a big statement after seeing Markram being appointed as the patron of Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Steep road ahead for SSR
It seems that Pathan hinted at Mayank Agarwal and Bhuveneshwar Kumar for the captaincy position. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has led the team several times while Mayank was the patron of Punjab Kings (PBKS). There are chances that Aiden Markram’s natural game will be affected due to the captaincy burden and at the same time the team can play with only 3 foreign players including Markram which could be a puzzle leading to the latest tournament stages.
This IPL is very crucial for Bhuveneshwar Kumar as there are doubts about his place in the Indian squad after the 2022 T20 WC semi-final loss. The pacer needs to work on his deadly bowling as batsmen easily pick their variations. It would be interesting to see what change new head coach Brian Lara brings as the team does not have many quality Indian players in the setup.
