Rishabh Pant, 25, has been ruled out of all cricket action for an indefinite period of time after being in a horrific road accident in December last year.

With Pant set to miss the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Delhi Capitals (DC) was forced to look for an interim captain for the team. According to the same report, the names of veteran starter David Warner and spin bowling all-rounder Axar Patel, who was vice-captain in 2022, were mooted for the captaincy. However, the name of the Australian star was finalized.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting and the entire team management felt that David Warner was the right person to lead the team into the 2023 Indian Premier League in the absence of Rishabh Pant.

David Warner previously managed the Delhi-based franchise for a couple of games during the final year of his first stint with the Delhi Daredevils between 2009 and 2013.
Warner brings a plethora of experience with him, having led the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to their first IPL title in 2016 after being named franchise captain in 2015.
Talking about his numbers as captain, he led in 69 matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and won 35 while losing 32 and drawing two. David Warner also has a great batting record while leading as he has scored 2840 runs at an average of 47.33 and strike rate of 142.28, including a century and 26 fifty.
