Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin celebrated in a different style after Nathan Lyon’s dismissal of Mohammed Shami’s bowling during the second Test between India and Australia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from Friday 17 February. The hosts dominated with their bowling against the visitors in the second match of the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023.
Australia won the toss and opted to bat first in the second match. The Aussies made a couple of line-up changes after the humiliating defeat in the first game. Travis Head was called up to the playing XI and Matthew Kuhnemann made his debut in the game’s longest format. Meanwhile, India made just one change to the playing XI, with Shreyas returning to the squad after recovering from a back injury.

After Nathan Lyon’s wicket was dropped, Ravichandran Ashwin ran up to the bowler and twisted Mohammed Shami’s ears in celebration. This incident took place in the 75th of Australia’s first inning. Shami bowled a brilliant delivery inside to shake Lyon’s stumps, collecting his third wicket in the innings.

The Aussies got off to a good start with a 50-run partnership from openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja. Shami provided the first break for the Rohit Sharma-led side as he bowled out Warner for 15 runs, who looked shaky from the start of his innings against the Indian bowlers.
The 32-year-old pacer struck immediately after lunch, dismissing lead batsman Travis Head for just 12 runs. The pacemaker in his right arm worried Australian batsmen whenever he went out to bowl. He picked up the wicket from Kuhnemann to eliminate Australia for 263 runs, finishing with four wickets for 60 runs.
