“Siraj was Virat’s biggest fan. After the first season in RCB, he came to me and said Sir, I want to be like Virat. I think it was the hunger in him; he had seen what Virat had achieved. So I told him that if you want to be like Virat, then like him, you will have to sacrifice many things.”

In 2017, Siraj made his debut for India during a T20I match against New Zealand, under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. Despite conceding 53 runs in four overs, Siraj earned Kohli’s admiration and respect.

While playing for RCB, Siraj continued to develop his skills under Kohli’s watchful eye. Finally, when Siraj was deemed ready for the next level, Kohli rewarded him with his first trial call-up for the 2020/21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
