The first 2 matches of the Test series against India were nothing special for Kangaroo captain Pat Cummins. Where he couldn’t show anything amazing on the ball, his strategy as captain was also criticized. While in his absence, when Steve Smith was given the responsibility of the captaincy in the third test match, he can now also be seen performing the same responsibility in the fourth test match.

With Australia’s impressive nine-wicket triumph in Indore this week, Steve Smith took over as captain for the third time since Pat Cummins took over as Test captain in November 2021.

“Pat Cummins is still very interested in this group” – Andrew McDonald

Australia will catch a flight to Ahmedabad on Monday before the start of the fourth test, which kicks off on Thursday at the 132,000-seat Narendra Modi Stadium.

Australia head coach Andrew McDonald admitted on Saturday that there were verbal interactions between the players and Cummins on Friday.

“He’s obviously dealing with what he’s dealing with at home, but he’s still very interested in this group. Our thoughts are still with him and his family at this difficult time. We are in constant contact with him every day, so he is not here at the moment and the test match is a few days away, so we will be speaking to Pat on a daily basis.” Andrew McDonald said.

Australia and India will play three one-day internationals after the two test matches. The three-match ODI series is crucial because it will provide Australia with a better understanding of the line-ups for the ODI World Cup later this year. However, Cummins is now in no mood to return. Instead. Steve Smith will captain for the remaining games.
