Michael Hussey, the former Australian cricketer, has advised the Australian team to take inspiration from Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, to improve their batting performance in the ongoing Test series. Hussey, 47, has praised Rohit’s exceptional hitting against spin in the series thus far.

Rohit’s impressive century in the first innings of the opening Test at Nagpur helped India take a substantial 223-run lead. In the Later Test at Delhi, he scored 32 runs in the first innings and played a quick hit of 31 runs in the second innings to lead his team to victory.

Australian batsmen have faced criticism for their excessive use of sweeping shots, particularly after their performance in the second innings of the Delhi Test.

During the innings, four Australian batsmen, namely Steve Smith, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins and Matthew Kuhnemann, lost their wickets attempting to play the sweeping shot. As a result, Australia innings they finished at a meager total of 113, after being a decent 61-1 earlier.

Australian batsmen need to figure out how to play to their strengths

On Michael Hussey’s advice, Australian batsmen need to understand their responsibilities and rely on their strengths rather than trying to score runs by unconventional means.

“The focus for Australian batsmen should be on assessing how best each of them can score runs. Each one has a different method of hitting. Therefore, some should look to push the limits and be more aggressive, while others should look to play the role of an anchor. Hitters need to focus on their strengths and the hits that get them runs rather than everyone trying a particular shot.”

“Obviously the Aussies can follow Rohit Sharma’s lead and take a look at the way he has hit so far. The way Rohit has done his job is certainly a good way to address the spin and score runs in such conditions,” said Michael Hussey.

With the third Test against India scheduled to start on March 1 in Indore, Australia will be eager to return to the series after losing the first two matches.
