Delhi Capitals Women bounced back strongly from their loss against Mumbai Indians Women as the team recorded their third win of the current season. Women’s Premier League when they defeated the Gujarat Giants by 10 wickets and Marizanne Kapp was named Player of the Match.
Marizanne Kapp was the star of the show, taking her first five-wicket haul in T20 cricket and restraining the Gujarat Giants to a total of 105/9. Kapp used the seam move to great effect and dismantled the Giants’ top order, putting the Delhi Capitals in a strong position. Kim Garth’s hard-hitting 32* for 37 helped the Giants reach a total of just over 100 runs.

Marizanne Kapp got off to a blistering start, picking up the wicket from Sabbhineni Meghana with a yorker on just the second ball of the inning. In the next over of hers, Kapp took two more wickets, removing the dangerous Laura Wolvaardt and Ashleigh Gardner in quick succession. Wolvaardt, who was playing her first game in the WPL as a replacement for Beth Mooney, was bowled by her South African teammate Kapp, while Gardner was caught lbw, leaving the Giants reeling at 9/3.
As the wickets fell at the other end, Harleen Deol managed to score some boundaries before being ruled out by Kapp after a successful review by the Capitals. Despite his contribution of 20 from 14 balls, Deol was unable to keep his wicket intact. Meg Lanning again brought Marizanne Kapp to the attack for her last round, where she took out Sushma Verma and completed her five wicket haul.

Marizanne Kapp happy to contribute to the team’s success
The South African star was on hand with the announcers during the post-match presentation as he accepted the Man of the Match award. Marizanne Kapp seemed pleased with her performance, adding that after the last few games she desperately wanted to contribute to the team’s victory.
“I just wanted to perform as much for my team. In the previous three games, I missed my lines a lot and wanted to step up tonight. If you want to act, you have to work. I let the team down in all three games, so I loved him very much. It’s tough as an SUV. If he picks wickets and doesn’t score runs, he feels bad. Fortunately, I didn’t hit tonight. We have a great group of players and happy to cross the line tonight.”
Despite Kim Garth’s slow but tough hitting of 32 from 37 balls, the Giants were only able to score 104 runs in their allotted 20 overs due to tight bowling from the Capitals. In response, Shafali Verma put in an outstanding performance hitting five sixes and ten fours, leading Capitals to an easy victory in just 7.1 overs. Verma also posted the second fastest fifty in the WPL during his impressive innings.
