Chennai Super Kings showed a superb performance with both bat and ball in Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 when they defeated the Gujarat Titans by 15 runs to book their place in the tournament final. They entered their record tenth league final.

Called on to bat first, Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad once again provided Chennai Super Kings with a blistering start at the top. The duo sewed in 87 runs for the team’s pace-setting opening partnership and based on some vital contributions, the Dhoni-led team recorded a total of 172 runs.

172 didn’t look like much on the board, but the CSK players made it look like a massive mountain for GT hitters to climb. The wicket played out completely differently in the second innings as the opposition batsmen appear clueless and lost their wickets in groups. Based on the collective bowling effort, the four-time champions outscored the defending champions by just 157 runs.

However, after the first few entries, a fan on Twitter made a wild prediction that has now gone viral. The Twitter user predicted that Chennai Super Kings would win the game by 15 runs and it finally happened.

GT vs CSK: “It’s a 2-month hard slog,” says MS Dhoni after Chennai Super Kings win

Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni spoke about the win against GT. He said it was hard work for two months and everyone contributed throughout the tournament. He said:

“IPL is too big to say it’s just another final. There used to be 8 main teams, now it’s 10. I won’t say it’s just another final. It is a hard work of 2 months. Everyone has contributed. Yes, the middle order doesn’t have much of a chance. The GTs are a fantastic team and they have chased very well, so the idea was to put them in.”

Chennai Super Kings will now be seen in action when the final takes place on Sunday (May 28) at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad.
