Former India cricketer Rohan Gavaskar has said that the star middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav, for him, is one of the first names in India’s squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
Suryakumar Yadav does not have much international experience as he has only played only 7 ODIs and 14 T20Is for India National Cricket Team. However, the 31-year-old has performed very well in the opportunities provided to him, as a result, many cricket pundits believe he should be in India’s T20 World Cup team.
Meanwhile, Rohan Gavaskar lauded Suryakumar and said that he is a versatile and a fabulous cricketer.
“For me, he is one of the first names in the Indian T20 squad for the World Cup because he is such a versatile, such a fabulous cricketer. You want him to be in form and this is the right opportunity for him to get some matches under his belt and hopefully get some runs under his belt,” Gavaskar said during an interaction on Sports 18.
Gavaskar further said that he would go with veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik as his first choice wicketkeeper in India’s T20I playing XI for Ireland series.
“You can play all three of them but in terms of wicketkeeping, I will go with DK and I will have Sanju Samson and Ishan in the playing XI. But behind the stumps, I will go with DK.”
We are all extremely eager and waiting, and excited to see him play for India – Rohan Gavaskar on Umran Malik
Gavaskar further talked about Jammu and Kashmir express pacer Umran Malik, who possesses the ability to bowl the deliveries consistently at over 150kmph, and said that the pacer was extremely impressive in the Indian Premier League 2022.
“He was extremely impressive in the Indian T20 league, bowling absolute rockets when he had the ball. And not only just bowling rockets, but he was also picking up wickets and that’s key.”
“You can bowl as fast as you want but if you don’t pick up wickets, you are not economical, then it doesn’t make any difference how fast you are bowling. He seems like the whole package. We are all extremely eager and waiting, and excited to see him play for India,” said Gavaskar.
Umran Malik picked 22 wickets in 14 games in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at an average of 20.18, an economy of 9.03 and a strike rate of 13.40, including a four-wicket haul and a five-wicket haul.
After a sensational run in the Indian Premier League 2022, Umran got his India call-up for the South Africa T20I series at home. However, he didn’t get an opportunity to play.
