The Delhi Capitals (DC-W) led by Meg Lanning lost against the Gujarat Giants (GUJ-W) led by Sneh Rana by 11 runs in match 14 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium on Thursday, March 16.
Delhi Capitals Women won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. The DC-W bowlers managed to reduce the Gujarat Giants to 32/1 on the power play and it looked as if the Sneh Rana-led side would once again be restricted to a low total.

Chasing the target, DC’s trusty opening duo of Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma failed to build a good partnership. Marizanne Kapp fought well and scored 36 runs, but wickets kept falling at the other end and DC-W dropped to 100/8.
From the lower order, Arundhati Reddy batted very well and scored 25 runs off 17 balls, hitting 4 fours, and looked set to carry his side over the finish line. It didn’t happen however as Kim Garth cleansed Arundhati on the 18th. DC-W lost the last wicket on the fourth ball on the 19th and went out for 136.
We didn’t play to our potential tonight – Meg Lanning
Speaking at the post-match introduction ceremony, DC-W captain Meg Lanning said that they did not play up to their potential in the game against Gujarat Giants. She added that the bowlers did an amazing job in the match.
“We felt that if we removed the overs, we could actually go over the line. The Gujarat team played very well. We didn’t play to our potential tonight,” Meg Lanning said.
“Our bowlers did an excellent job and I think they were 20-25 short. We didn’t take as many wickets, but we held them back pretty well. With wickets at the rear, they would obviously score quite a bit. It’s a good learning opportunity for us,” added Meg Lanning.
Meg Lanning was quite disappointed with her performance in the match.
“My chance to get out was bad. Playing across the line on a court where he should have played straight and two key breakaways. We lost momentum as we lost land but we gave credit to Gujarat,” said Meg Lanning.
Meg Lanning further spoke about Gujarat Giants star Harleen Deol.
“(About Harleen Deol) We talked a little bit about her, she throws a little off spin and leg spin. She put the balls in the correct areas and got the reward. Everyone has been busy so they will enjoy her free time tomorrow,” she said.
