Following the Gujarat Titans’ impressive 62-run victory over the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023 Qualifier 2 on 26 May Vijay Shankar praised Shubman Gill who was awarded the Man of the Match award.
Shubman Gill’s outstanding performance saw him score a remarkable 129 runs off just 60 balls, including seven fours and 10 sixes, setting a challenging target of 234 for the five-time champions.

Shankar, who did not get a chance to bat in the game, praised Shubman Gill for his exceptional work ethic and dedication to the game, both on and off the field. He stressed that Gill’s ability to understand when to rotate the strike and when to speed up sets him apart as a special hitter.

The way he practices is something really important. He does what he wants and practices with a purpose and every time he shows up in the game, it’s so lovely to see him fire up from the first ball.”
“He is capable of doing both. As a hitter, when you know you can hit sixes as well as (rotate strike). His greatest strength is finding the holes in the power play. He can play the ball in the holes and hit those boundaries when necessary. He is someone with everything and he knows when to do what. That is the highlight of being a top player and it shows how he is made”.
