Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, is currently the best batter in the world, according to former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull.
The 27-year-old Babar just surpassed India’s Virat Kohli to get a brilliant record for himself. Babar became the fastest batter to 1000 runs as an ODI skipper in 13 innings. Kohli had done that in 17 innings.
Babar accomplished this feat earlier this month during the ODI series against Nicholas Pooran’s West Indies. The cricketer, who was born in Lahore, Pakistan, has played 89 one-day internationals, scoring 4442 runs at an average of 59.23 and a strike rate of 90.25, with 17 hundred and 19 half-centuries to his credit.
Babar Azam Is The Best Top Order Batter At The Moment: Simon Doull
In terms of batting in the top order, according to Doull, Babar has maybe been the standout batter. The veteran expressed his views during the ongoing Test match between England and New Zealand.
“Not many could argue that Babar Azam is the best player in the world at the moment. As far as batting in that top order is concerned, he is unbelievable. Joe Root’s got an argument for that too. They talk about the big four, at the moment, he’s the big one,” Doull was quoted as saying.
Babar has amassed 2686 runs in 74 T20Is, scoring one century and 26 half-centuries while averaging 45.53 and striking at 129.45. The Young Turk has 40 Tests under his belt where he has hit six centuries and 21 half-centuries.
The T20 World Cup 2021 saw Pakistan win five straight games under Babar before falling to Aaron Finch’s Australia in the semifinal at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
In the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Babar also took Imad Wasim’s spot as the Karachi Kings’ captain last season.
