Asian Cup 2023 has been making a lot of headlines. BCCI has made it clear that it will not travel to Pakistan for Asian Cup 2023 and he has stated that playing cricket in pakistan is a decision of the indian government and we all know that both nations do not have friendly relations. PCB had even threatened to pull out of ODI WC 2023, which is due to take place in India in October-November.
According to reports, Pakistan is supposed to host its matches except against India, with all of India’s matches to be played in the United Arab Emirates. However, there is no official update on the tournament as it was not clear at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting if the United Arab Emirates would host the tournament for a record third time (2018, 2022). Abdur Rehman on the Asia Cup 2023
Abdur Rehman was having an interaction with Nadir Ali on his podcast – ‘Nadir Ali Podcast’ and was asked about the Asia Cup 2023.
“The Asian Cup should not happen in Dubai. That’s because ICC is below them. All the people who work for ICC are Indian. India generates 60 to 70 percent of the funds. We are not in a position to say no. Even if they don’t come (to Pakistan), we should go because we have to play cricket.” Abdur Rehman said.

Exciting Asian Cup 2023 on Cards
The Asian Cup 2023 is scheduled for September 2023, which would serve as a springboard for the ODI WC 2023. PCB would be cognizant of the fact that if they boycott the OD WC 2023, the ICC may ban them from the sport. It would be interesting to see if the rest of the teams agree in multiple places (*UAE and Pakistan).
As Abdur Rehman mentioned, PCB has to agree with ICC decision if they want to play cricket. Under the new PCB Chairman, Najam Sethi, Pakistani fans would expect to be able to witness cricket in their backyard; where the nation is going through a massive economic crisis.
