Umran Malik, a quick bowling sensation, has been one of the IPL 2022’s biggest discoveries. Malik defended the Rs 4 crore that the Sunrisers Hyderabad spent on him after being retained before the auctions.
He finished as the team’s best wicket-taker with 22 wickets in 14 games. His ability to hit high speeds and cause batsmen problems with his speed and bounce was impressive. He was even called up to the national side for the T20I series against South Africa as a result of his outstanding performances. He was also selected for the series against Ireland later on.
It Is Not The Right Time For Umran Malik To Play Test Cricket: Glenn McGrath
Legendary cricketers have heaped accolades on the Jammu and Kashmir bowler. Sunil Gavaskar compared him to Sachin Tendulkar as the most exciting cricketer he has seen. Glenn McGrath, a great Australian pacer, has now stepped out in support of the youngster.
“Yeah, bowling express pace is something which is quite unique. And it is very special. If you can combine that extreme pace with control and consistency, then you become a very dangerous bowler. It is just about getting that experience, once you get to the top, you have to work even harder. As long as his work ethic is good and he looks to improve, who knows where he can go,” said McGrath in an interview with NDTV.
There is still time for him. You have to get out there and do the business in first-class cricket as well, “You need to be strong so that you can bowl day in and day out, yeah a lot of it is going to depend on him, his work ethic, and how he goes about things. If he can adapt to playing at the higher level and enjoy it, then yeah, looks like he can have a big career,” said Glenn McGrath.
Malik would hope to get game time against Ireland.
