Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) management has responded to Mohun Bagan Football Club’s claim that they did not allow fans into the stadium during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Eden Gardens last week.

Lucknow Super Giants wore the special kit in their last league match of IPL 2023 against KKR. They wore the kit of the Mohun Bagan Football Club to pay tribute to them. Notably, the football club is owned by Sanjiv Goenka, who also owns the IPL franchise.

Mohun Bagan accused KKR of not allowing fans to enter the stadium, wearing his iconic jersey. His General Secretary Debashish Dutta through a press release lashed out at the IPL team and said that it is an individual choice to support the team. The official statement said:

“It was a special match for the Mohun Bagan supporters because LSG was wearing a new green and maroon jersey. However, the KKR management restricted the freedom of Mohun Bagan supporters (who are also fans of KKR and LSG) by not allowing them to enter the stadium because they were wearing Mohun Bagan’s jersey. It is an individual right to support and wear the jersey of the team they love and support. No one has the right to interfere in their own choice.”

IPL 2023: “KKR management has nothing to do with crowd management.” – Knight Riders of Calcutta

However, the Kolkata Knight Riders management was not afraid to give the football club a proper response. The IPL franchise in an official statement said they had nothing to do with the crowd but had information that some vested interests tried ambush marketing. He added:

“For the record, KKR management has nothing to do with stadium crowd management. We were told that some vested interests attempted some ambush marketing, which as per the IPL league policy was immediately stopped by the IPL league anti-ambush marketing team.”

Coming into the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants, the game went down the wire. The home team lost the game by just 1 run as Rinku Singh once again did the unimaginable.

With the loss, KKR was eliminated from the tournament. They finished seventh in the points table with only 6 wins in 14 meetings.
