Former Indian cricketer Karsan Ghavri has lashed out at Delhi Capitals (DC) player Prithvi Shaw for his poor performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He highlighted that both he and Shubman Gill started together and everyone could see where he stands compared to the Gujarat Titans (GT) batsman.
Prithvi Shaw was the biggest disappointment for Delhi Capitals in their torrid season in IPL 2023. He was the main cause of tea struggling to get going in the tournament and amidst his failures, he was even dropped from the 11-man squad. .

With the sort of domestic form Prithvi Shaw was in, he was expected to set the stage ablaze this year. But this was not the case, as he had his worst season in the league. He struggled to trade the new ball and got a handful of misses this year.

Prithvi Shaw struggled to score runs this year as he managed just 106 runs in 8 games at a low average of just 13.25 and a strike rate of 124.52. His best performance came in DC’s penultimate match against the Punjab Kings, where he scored a half-century.

Karsan Ghavri cited the example of Shubman Gill lashing out at Prithvi Shaw. He said the DC hitter needs to figure things out because it’s a completely different scenario on the international stage. Speaking to the Indian Express, he said:
“You were on the same team that won the U-19 World Cup in 2018, right? Where is Prithvi Shaw and Shubman Gill today? They are in two different categories. Shaw believes that he is a star and that no one can touch him.
“But you need to understand that internationally, regardless of whether you play T20, 50+ or the Test Match or even the Ranji Trophy, it only takes one delivery to get you out.”

Both Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw were part of the Indian under-19 cricket team that won the World Cup in 2018. Shaw has been struggling to find a place in the Indian main team, while Shubman Gill has cemented his place in all three game formats and is touted as the prince of Indian cricket.
Karsan Ghavri said that Shubman Gill has worked on its shortcomings while Prithvi Shaw has not. He believes that he needs to have discipline and temper. He said:
“Discipline and a good temper are required. You need to constantly work on yourself. You are required to occupy the crease, and if you do, you will surely get more runs. They are of the same age. Nothing has been lost yet. Gill has worked on his flaws, while Shaw hasn’t. He still can. You need to work hard; otherwise there is no point in having so much potential.”
Shubman Gill in IPL 2023 has taken his game to a different level and is currently the league leading rusher with over 850 runs to his name.
