Legendary Pakistani pacer Wasim Akram hailed young Indian batsman Shubman Gill as a future world cricket superstar, saying he can score consistently across all three formats of the game. Wasim Akram pointed out the similarities between the batting styles of Sachin Tendulkar and Shubman Gill.
The 23-year-old has been in incredible form with the bat and has scored many runs for India in the last 12 months. The right-handed batsman broke centuries in international cricket in all three formats. Gill cemented his place as a starter in the team’s starting XI in red and white ball formats.

In a conversation with Sportskeeda, Wasim Akram said that bowing against Shubman Gill is akin to bowling against Sachin Tendulkar.
“When I bowl a player like Gill, even in T20 format, it’s like I’m bowling Sachin Tendulkar on a day of cricket in the first 10 overs, when only two fielders were allowed (outside the 30-yard circle).” Akram said.
Shubman Gill impressed with his batting in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL). He finished as the tournament’s running leader, scoring 890 runs in 17 matches at an impressive average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 157.80.

The former Pakistan captain said that Shubman Gill can play proper cricket shots, which can cause problems for bowlers.
“If I were to bowl with Jayasuriya or Kaluwitharna, I knew I had a chance. I can get them out when they hit on every ball.” added.

“But, players like Sachin and Gill, they play proper cricket shots. I think he’s the type of player who can score in all three formats consistently. He is a future world cricket superstar.” He concluded.
Shubman Gill will be seen in action when India take on Australia in the highly anticipated ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final at the Oval in London from 7-11 June. Gill is expected to open the batting alongside skipper Rohit Sharma in the Clash of Summits.
