Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting thinks team India should have selected all-rounder Hardik Pandya for the next final of the World Test Championship (WTC).

India and Australia will meet in the WTC Final II at the Oval in London from June 7-11. The Baggy Greens will play their first World Team Cup final after India were beaten by New Zealand in the first competition in 2021.

Pandya has performed admirably in limited overs cricket, especially considering his propensity for scoring quick runs and snagging significant wickets. He has proven to be an invaluable member of the team and has been instrumental in many of India’s victories in limited overs cricket. However, Pandya has not had much of an effect in Test cricket.

“Hardik Pandya could be that X factor” – Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting, a batting icon, believes that India should have included Hardik Pandya in their line-up for the World Test Championship final matchup against Australia in London due to his all-around skills, which may have been the deciding factor in the one-match matchup. . . However, Ponting believed that Pandya should have participated in the 7–11 June winner-take-all match at The Oval. Firstly, because he bowled for the Gujarat Titans, the team he captains, in virtually every game of the recently concluded IPL.

“…I thought about the other day for India in this game, how valuable someone like Hardik Pandya could be in a single test match.” Ricky Ponting wrote for ICC Review.

“I know you’re on record saying that the Test Match game is probably going to be a little hard on your body. But for a single game.. he has been bowling every game of this IPL and he is bowling fast. He (Pandya) could be that X factor there just to pick in a single game, go in and see what he can do with the bat and ball. He could be the difference between the two teams.” Ricky Ponting added.
