The fight between the Cricket Board of Control in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on hosting the Asia Cup 2023 has been the topic of conversation for the past few months. The tournament is originally scheduled to take place in Pakistan.

But BCCI has denied traveling to Pakistan for security reasons. While on the other hand, PCB is not willing to change the tournament. This led them to propose the hybrid model, but according to various reports, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) rejected it as they want to get the entire event out of Pakistan.

However, the PCB has come up with a revised hybrid model and has made a stern statement that if the ACC doesn’t go along with it, they might end up boycotting the 2023 World Cup as well. The final decision related to the tournament is expected to be made in the next 3-4 days.

But amidst all this, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has set out to host the tournament. One of their top officials has said that they are prepared to host the event, but the final decision will be up to ACC. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he said:

LPI 2023 | India national cricket team| Chennai Super Kings (CSK) | Capitals of Delhi (DC) | Gujarat Titans (GT) | Knights Riders of Calcutta (KKR) | Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) | Mumbai Indians (MI) | Punjab Kings (PBKS) | Rajasthan Royals (RR) | Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) | Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

“SLC is prepared to host the Asian Cup in the short term. The decision now rests with the ACC.”

Asian Cup 2023: “We are interested in playing the Asian Cup,” says BCB cricket operations president Jalal Yunus.

BCB Chairman of Cricket Operations Jalal Yunus said they are looking forward to participating in the tournament wherever it takes place. But they expressed concern about playing in the United Arab Emirates, citing that extreme weather conditions could lead to injuries to players. He said:

“We are interested in playing the Asian Cup. Whatever the model in which the tournament is held, we are interested. If the ACC decides that the tournament will be played in Dubai and the other members agree, we will have to play there.”

The Asian Cup is scheduled for September 2023. India and Pakistan are placed in the same group along with Nepal. While Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are in the second group.
